A study in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology in October calculated that for each week a baby stayed in the womb between 32 and 39 weeks, there is a 23% decrease in problems such as respiratory distress, jaundice, seizures, temperature instability and brain hemorrhages.

Just came across this article about genetic testing (see below).
If you didn't already know, genetic diseases such as Sickle Cell Anemia, Cystic Fibrosis, and Tay Sachs, can be passed to the baby if mom and dad are both carriers. Many states have mandatory testing for children once they are born, but not before they are conceived or before they are born. Parents can be screened for genetic diseases before or during the pregnancy (via a blood test). If the mom is a carrier, dad gets tested. If both mom and dad are carriers, then baby might be a carrier. But screening lets you know if you have reason to be concerned.

- Factors include sleep deprivation, hormonal changes and financial pressures
